Ab-Soul - Dreamin' [Feat K-Boy & Tone Trump]

Man...Ab's been on fire lately. Never heard of the features on this track prior to it, but they're not bad. The hook's smooth too.

Big K.R.I.T - Just Last Week Feat. Future

krit

Krizzle's back. This was a preview on his last mixtape, but he finally decided to release the full version. I don't really like Future in anything so that's that. But the verses are solid as fuck.

Jay Z - Holy Grail Music Video

The visual for the opening song on the album. Your thoughts?

Mysteryland Announces Debut American Festival At Original Woodstock Location

Tommorowland won't be the only highly touted European festival to make it's debut in the USA this year. Well, technically next year, but not too far away! Next memorial day, the Netherlands 3 day festival will make it's debut in America, at the original location of Woodstock 1969. Attendance will be limited to 20,000 per day, but this should be well worth it for anyone fortunate enough to attend.

New Pendulum Album On The Way

Rob Swire from Knife Party took to twitter to announce that the duos formerly disbanded Pendulum project would soon be making it's return from their 4 year hiatus, after the next Knife Party album. Great news! For those unfamiliar with the Pendulum side project, hear is a mix from the drum and bass duo's heyday

Swizz Beatz - Hands Up feat. Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, & Lil Wayne

Not gonna lie, when I first saw this song and who all was featured on it, I thought it was gonna be one of those Dj Khaled-esque songs that have no replay value. I was wrong. This is a pretty quality song with great verses from everyone (yes, including Wayne and Nicki). Over a dynamic beat that's constantly chaning up. Bravo Mr. Beatz.

-RA

Sorry to disagree but to me this sounds extremely generic...not a Swizz Beatz fan at all. Rick Ross and 2 Chainz do have cool verses but there is no substance here...

Figure - War Call (Ft. Del The Funkee Homosapien)

Fuck...first time I heard Figure drop this song was at Meltdown Music Festival in Dallas of May 2012..!! Over two years ago... Back then it was called Indian. But whatever, it's finally released! And Del The Funkee Homosapien is still the shit.

New Big Sean Singles. Mula Remix feat. Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, & Early Mac and First Chain feat. Nas & Kid Cudi

Great verses from everybody. Great beat too. Pretty excited for the album.

Best verse I've heard from 2 Chainz in a while. He fucking kills it. The whole song is crunk as shit. I'm still crumping uncontrollably in my seat. Goddamn.

Lupe Fiasco - SLR 3 (Round Of Applause)

Lupe's been coming out with a lot of new material lately! This just dropped about a couple days after SLR 2. He's also been stepping up his game and returning to his former Lupe style as of late. Hopefully his Great American Rap Album Part 2 is better than the first one. Until then, these singles he's been putting out are fire.

Zeds Dead's Altered States Summer Mix

I usually don't listen to mixes all the way through but this one managed to hold my attention all the way until the end. There's a little something for everyone in this mix. Zeds Dead will be performing in Dallas on Halloween.

-RA

Second Opinion

Listening to mixes all the way through is the only way to do it. Good mix though

Captain Murphy - Between Villains feat. MF DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt, & Thundercat

Some serious bars on a serious beat. Definitely not for everyone, but it's worth a listen.

- RA

Dizzy Wright - World Peace (Produced by Rikio)

I never really listened to much from Dizzy until he officially became a XXL freshman as of recent. Everything that I've heard since then has been pretty rad. Really feeling the beat on this one. Can't wait for the project to drop.

THROWBACK THURSDAY Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?

Powered by mp3skull.com
So me and Grant are going to be trying this out every week from now on. We're going to post songs from any genre that used to be the fucking jam. And then we're going to reminisce over how cool they are. People should comment below too. It's nice to get discussion going.

This song is trippy.

Second Opinion

Top 5 favorite song ever, for sure....everyone needs to hear this album at some point.

Just Blaze & Baauer - Higher (Ft. Jay-Z) [video]

Baauer teams up with Just Blaze for his follow up production to "Harlem Shake". Samples Jay-Z lines from "U Don't Know" off The Blueprint (song's coincidentally produced by Just Blaze). Baauer proves he's more than a one hit wonder with this one. Cool song and video

Zeds Dead - Jericho

Brand new Zed's Dead track they just dropped. Always can expect good stuff

Mat Zo - Pyramid Scheme

Officially released to Beatport today, Mat Zo releases another original production, "Pyramid Scheme", his first since "Easy" with Porter Robinson. An interesting sample is used, hip hop legend Chuck D from the group Public Enemy. The sample derives from their song "Can I Get A Witness." Mat Zo is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated producers in the edm industry right now. The song itself is just alright to me, but I'm a big fan of Mat Zo, so I decided to share anyway. Anyway, check it out for yourself...

Killer Mike & EL-P - Run The Jewels Album Review

Thought I'd share my review for one of the top hip-hop LP's of the year, Killer Mike & El-P's Run The Jewels. This was a free LP that came out late June. It's the follow up to the 2012 album R.A.P. Music by Killer Mike, entirely produced by El-P. For those unfamiliar with Killer Mike, he's a southern rapper who's been prolific in the underground hip hop scene since the early decade. He brings one of the top mic presences in the game to each song he spits on. His last two albums, along with a live show earlier this year, solidified his status for me as one of the top mic presences in the game right now. Check for his features on any Outkast albums from the early part of the decade to get familiar. Or if you enjoy this, his more recent albums, I Pledge Allegiance to The Grind 2 and Pl3DGE, are definitely worth checking out as well.
El-P can also hold his own as a rapper. He has his own experimental, innovative style. He spits near-impossible phrases and comes up with crazy metaphors and references regularly. El-P is also a talented producer. He produced one of the better produced hip hop albums of the early decade, The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox, and even has some quality solo projects to his own name, namely Fantastic Damage and the more recent Cancer For Cure
Needles to say, I was pretty excited when I first heard about these two artists working together for R.A.P. Music, and then again for Run The Jewels. Run The Jewels was a quality follow up project to R.A.P. Music, what I consider to be a top 10 hip hop project from last year. This time around, El-P actually gets to rap along with Killer Mike on the tracks. The two rappers go back and forth spitting crazy verses throughout. No bullshit in between. The opening track is a perfect example of this. Then the second song, Banna Clipper, is a stand out, with a killer verse from Big Boi:

This next song, in my opinion, is another one of the better songs on the album and has an accompanying music video. 36 Chain:

Killer Mike & El-P have great chemistry. The two working together is one of the better things to happen to in the hip-hop scene in a while.

The album is a lot of back and forth like those tracks. There are some story telling tracks here too though, like on Sea Legs. DDFH is another stand out (my personal favorite):

And then the album wraps up with Get It, a quality track, followed by the last track, A Christmas Fucking Miracle. This song is a crazy ending track to a badass summer LP. Maybe the best since Acid Rap.

The whole project overall is a bit repetitive, especially with the production. However, when the production's at its best, it's fucking top notch. Sometimes, the subject matter doesn't change up enough either, although I think the lyricism makes up for it. The album often blends together too much as well,  but Run The Jewels as a whole is still a great follow up project to R.A.P. Music. Definitely of one of the better hip hop projects of the year and worth checking for if you haven't already.

Best Songs: DDFH, Sea Legs, 36 Chain, Banana Clip,  Run The Jewels

** check for R.A.P. Music as well if you like this and haven't already **
